Avengers: Infinity War’s Thanos ‘Doesn’t Have a Weakness’

Saying that we’re looking forward to Avengers: Infinity War is sort of a loaded statement. Of course, we miss our favorite heroes and seeing so many of them together on screen is going to be awesome. That goes without saying. However, the more we learn about Thanos – the more we realize that the battle is going to be a disastrous one.

We didn’t ever believe that he’d go easy on the Avengers, but we didn’t realize just how much we had to fear until we read the latest statement from Joe Russo. Speaking to Empire Magazine, he ensured fans that defeating Thanos is going to take…a miracle.

‘He’s stronger than the Hulk. He’s more like Genghis Khan. He’s a force of nature. He has a spiritual wisdom well beyond all the other characters. He is a conqueror of worlds. He doesn’t have a weakness, and that’s what makes him so threatening.’

Of course, any old villain storyline wouldn’t be fitting for Thanos. He’s more than just the evilest power that the MCU heroes have ever encountered. He’s more because he’s got a soul…somewhere…buried deep within his terrifying stature.

Co-writer Stephen McFeeley described that it was a challenge to portray Thanos at first. Oh, and he once again touched on his ’emotional story’.

‘One of the big challenges is how to make sure he’s not just a relentless machine collecting stones like he’s going shopping. So we want to give him a full weighted emotional story. You can kind of say this is Thanos’ origin story so that he will get the weight of any of the previous heroes in terms of the decisions he has to make in order to get what he wants.’

It does help, in a way, to know that we will learn why Thanos is the evil that he is. It doesn’t mean that we’re going to feel for him. Especially after seeing this most recent trailer. It would take a LOT for us to see him as someone shaped by terrible circumstances. Even if that’s what we find out to be true, and by the likes of recent interviews, we just might.

Call us biased, it’s okay. We never said we’d discredit his villain, he’s got that down for sure.

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on April 27th.
