Netflix’s critically-acclaimed coming of age comedy Atypical will be back for a third season on the streaming platform.

The series follows Sam Gardner (played by Keir Gilchrist), an 18-year-old boy with autism, as he searches for love and independence while also dealing with some rocky roads ahead at home. In the second season, Sam’s parents, Elsa (played by Jennifer Jason Leigh) and Doug (played by Michael Rapaport) faced the aftermath of their marital issues, which first arose in season one, and Sam’s sister Casey (played by Brigette Lundy-Paine) tried to adjust to her new school, while Sam prepared for life after graduation.

While details relating to the third season, including official casting and plot details, have not yet been announced, we do know that season three will contain 10 half-hour episodes.

The news of the season three renewal was announced via the Atypical social media pages. The series posted to Twitter, “It’s a great day because Atypical Season 3 is on the way! 🐧 Coming soon to Netflix.”

In addition to Gilchrist, Leigh, Rapaport and Lundy-Paine, season two of the series also starred Amy Okuda (How to Get Away with Murder), Raul Castillo (Looking, Seven Seconds), Nik Dodani (Alex Strangelove), Graham Rogers (Ray Donovan, The Kominsky Method), Fivel Stewart (Hansel & Gretel: Warriors of Witchcraft), Jenna Boyd (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) and Casey Wilson (Happy Endings, Gone Girl).

Atypical is created, written and executive produced by Robia Rashid (How I Met Your Mother, Will & Grace). Academy Award-winning producer Seth Gordon and Mary Rohlich also executive produce alongside Rashid. Leigh also serves as a producer on the series along with Michelle Dean who also helps guide an accurate depiction of autism spectrum disorder. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television for Netflix.
