‘Arrow’: Did Stephen Amell hint at Captain Lance Actually Being Vigilante?

One of the biggest questions that fans of the hit CW show Arrow have been wondering, in addition to ‘who survived the Lian Yu explosion’ is – Who is going to be this seasons big bad?

It seems as though every season has a minor antagonistic villain who wrecks havoc for a few episodes (i.e Tobias Church, Danny Brickwell) before the season’s big bad comes in and just completely drops a bomb in on Team Arrow. (sometimes quite literally).

This past season, Arrow featured one of the most popular comic villains in the form of Prometheus. The writers completely threw a curveball at us with this one. For those of you who follow the comics, or just surf the web for Arrow spoilers and predictions, it was almost certain that Adrian Chase was going to be the character of Vigilante – just like his comic book roots.

In prior interviews, both EPs Wendy Mericle and Marc Guggenheim have stated that was done intentionally. They knew that we would jump to the conclusion that Adrian was Vigilante, which many of us did. Having him be Prometheus was definitely, a gigantic shock.

Prometheus had to have been one of the most diabolical villains to have come into Oliver’s life, wrecking havoc on both of Oliver’s fronts – that as the Green Arrow and that as Oliver Queen.

In an interview with CBR at San Diego comic Con, Amell recently teased some information on the villains we’ll see in Arrow season 6, and how that new threat will compare to the arrival of Prometheus in season 5.

Stephen talked about how Prometheus isn’t the type of villain you can just ‘one-up’, in fact, you will have to go about an entirely different approach… a ‘bigger and badder’ approach:

You don’t follow [him] up with one villain. Are you a fan of 24? [Arrow‘s villain is] not an actor from that show, although Paul Blackthorne being the main villain would just be tremendous on a number of levels. It’s more about the way that they introduced them on 24.”

Interesting that Stephen mentioned Paul Blackthorne, as his character of Captain Lance has been speculated by many fans to secretly be the character Vigilante.

Arrow will return on October 12th at 9PM/EST on the CW.
