Earlier this year, our hearts broke when we learned that following the 5th Season of Arrow, John Barrowman would be walking away from The CW’s Arrowverse entirely.
This left much speculation that Malcolm Merlyn really did die in the Season 5 finale, when he stepped on a landmine in order to protect Thea and the rest of Team Arrow.
In a recent roundtable interview Arrow EP Marc Guggeheim addressed the question that fans have presented – characters have survived more drastic events on Arrow and all of it’s sister shows, so could that mean in some way Malcolm could return?
“That’s up to John. We told John when we called him to tell him about the events of the finale, every single person on all the shows has come back in some shape or form. We’ve got flashbacks, we’ve got time travel, we’ve got parallel universes. Goodbye is never goodbye. He has an open invitation to return to the show any time he wants.”
After hearing about Marc’s comments, Barrowman grew extremely excited, taking to both his Instagram and Twitter – expressing his excitement.
“If they have changed their mind, awesome! I have LOVED playing Malcom Merlyn and was SO disappointed to be told the news of his death and to no longer be part of a fantastic team and show. If they want me back, they just have to ask! The ball is back in their court. Write Merlyn an amazing storyline and I will be there.”
He’s not the only one that is excited about the possible return of the character. Fans all across the Arrowverse were not shy to hide their excitement, immediately taking to social media as well – praying that one of their favorite characters would make his return to their screens.
I for one, do not believe we have seen the last of Malcolm. All of our favorite Arrowverse characters have a way of returning to us in some way, shape or form!
Arrow will return on October 12, 2017 at 9PM/EST on The CW.
