In Spring of last year, the world went wild over the internet sensation April the Giraffe. April resides at the Animal Adventure Park in Hapursville, New York, and last year, the world watched as the then-expectant mother-to-be gave birth to her precious baby calf. The animal captivated viewers for months prior to her delivery after the park set up a live stream video and indicated that she would give birth at anytime. The giraffe became a viral sensation and, as thousands watched, days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months until baby Tajiri arrived.
Baby Tajiri is now over a year old and is about to become a big brother. That’s right! It’s about to happen all over again as the Animal Adventure Park announced Tuesday on Today that April is pregnant yet again!
Before the park was able to make the announcement, a lot of work went into collecting samples in order to run a giraffe pregnancy test. In a video posted to the park’s Facebook page about a month ago, park owner Jordan Patch explains the complicated process.
Now, a month later, Patch was ready to make the official announcement. “The results are in and we are having a baby!”
Of course, one of the first questions from the Today Show crew was, “when is she due?” Park has clearly learned a lesson from April’s previous viral birth. He answered “The average (gestation period) for a giraffe is 15 months, but April likes to go 16, 17, 18 … 19 months.”
Check out the announcement from the Today Show below.
