Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Slyly References Captain America: Civil War in It’s latest Installment.

The upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be Paul Rudd’s fifth time playing Scott Lang/Ant-Man, making it a trilogy movie. Previously he has made appearances in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers Endgame as well. This time around though his daughter Cassie Lang is being played by Kathryn Newton – so fans of the franchise should expect an even bigger fight scene from this installment!

The latest instalment of the Newton movie series offers a delightful hint to its predecessor; Cassie dons her own oversized outfit, following in her dad’s footsteps. Just like her father does several times over the course of all movies, she too grows giant-sized during one particularly remarkable scene from Quantumania. This sweet reference is none other than an homage to Scott’s very first appearance as Giant-Man!

In Civil War, Scott astonishingly reveals that he had only ever become giant in a laboratory – an experience which made him faint. Nevertheless, with Captain America (Chris Evans) by his side in the battle against Iron Man’s team (Robert Downey Jr.), he gives it another shot and perseveres until the squad uses their newfound knowledge from Empire Strikes Back to take him down. Scott then cries out for orange slices before returning to his original size; similarly, Cassie expresses her desires for limes when she returns to her normal form during Quantumania. In this moment of need and craving, these two join forces over their mutual love of citrus fruits!

What Has Paul Rudd Said About Captain America: Civil War?

“When I was working with you on Civil War, for that first scene that we had where we were in the car parked,” Rudd told Variety back in 2020. Evans chimed in, “That was the first day I met you.” Rudd replied, “Yeah. And there was a real kind of nervousness about Scott Lang, and I just really kind of played into that because that was part of what I was feeling anyway. I’d look around and think, ‘Whoa, there’s Chris Evans and there’s Sebastian Stan, and wow — and there’s the suits.’ Do you remember there was like a little makeshift locker room? We’re all kind of changing into things, and I saw the suits on the racks. It felt like being in a locker room of a Super Bowl-winning football team.”

Will Kathryn Newton’s Cassie Lang Join the Young Avengers?

Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has spent a lot of energy introducing heroes to potentially join the Young Avengers. Some include Kate Bishop, Eli Bradley, America Chavez, Kid Loki, Billy and Tommy Maximoff, as well as Cassie Lang. When asked on Late Night with Seth Myers if audiences will get to see Cassie’s size-changing abilities in an upcoming Young Avengers film adaptation Newton answered positively affirming that: “I don’t know, I mean, like, what? The thing that’s cool was that making this movie was the best project of my life and even if I’m lucky enough to do another Marvel movie, nothing will ever top working with Paul Rudd every day. Ever. I don’t know.”
