‘Ant Man and the Wasp’ May Be Setting Up Cassie Lang For Something Big

Aside from Hawkeye, Scott Lang/Ant-Man is one of the only other fathers that we’ve met so far the MCU Avengers, and his relationship with his daughter Cassie has been a huge highlight and emotional component for both 2015’s Ant-Man as well as this year’s Ant-Man and the Wasp.
She has always remained Scott’s main motivation and the two of them give an extra dose of heart to the Ant-Man franchise more than other films, mainly because when Scott is Ant-Man, it’s his daughter Cassie who is potentially in danger every time a villain finds out it’s him the suit.
Portrayed by the adorable Abby Ryder Fortson (Forever My Girl), Cassie had a few fleeting moments in Ant-Man and the Wasp where she told Scott that he needed a “partner”. He believed that to mean Hope (Evangeline Lilly), but by the end of the movie, Cassie reveals that she’s talking about herself when she says that she also wants to help people just like him. So, what future does Cassie Lang have in the MCU? Ant-Man and the Wasp director Peyton Reed weighed in with Comicbook.com.
[row]”Abby is fantastic. She was six when we shot the first one, and nine when we shot this one, and just to kind of see how she’s grown in those three years… She’s such a sharp kid, and so focused, but still maintains her little-kid-ness. She’s very natural. And the rapport between Paul and Abby is terrific, and I’m glad we were able to really capture that. She’s terrific, and I think it was fun story-wise to, yes, start maybe planning seeds for the idea that the first time we see them together in the movie, and he’s kind of built this whole cardboard maze to show her, okay, I can’t responsively shrink you down, but this is what it’s like to shrink. This is kind of what it’s like, and she’s intrigued, and says, ‘Oh, I wish we could do it for real.’ So there’s a real curiosity about her dad, and what he does.[/row]
*Minor comic book/Ant-Man and the Wasp spoilers ahead*
In the comics, Cassie does eventually become a hero of her own becoming one of many superhero iterations including Ant-Girl. Reed hinted that nothing said or done in Ant-Man and the Wasp was an accident. With Avengers 4 looming, everything is important.
[row]”It was fun kind of planting the seeds and seeing the spirit of Scott Lang starting to rear its head in his daughter…I can’t say really what are seeds about Avengers 4, or about a potential other Ant-Man movie, but I can say that things are definitely in a movie for a reason.”[/row]
We saw in the mid-credit scene that Hope, Hank, and Janet were all zapped away by Thanos’ Infinity War snap, but the fate’s of other Ant-Man characters such as Luis and Cassie are still up in the air. With Ant-Man stuck in the quantum realm, Avengers 4 may provide the opportunity to move Cassie’s story along, especially if there’s any chance the movie will be playing around with time.
What do you think the future holds for Cassie Lang? Ant-Man and the Wasp is currently playing in theaters!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
