Netflix is surely stepping up their game in the competitive world of original content as their latest film The Last Thing He Wanted has got an impressive couple of Hollywood A-listers on the roster!
Based on Joan Didion’s 1996 novel, The Last Thing He Wanted stars Anne Hathaway and Ben Affleck in a story about “hardscrabble journalist Elena McMahon who finds herself on dangerous ground as the Iran Contra Affair’s arms for drugs plot reaches its tipping point.” The film will be directed by Dee Rees, the man behind Netflix’s previous Oscar nominee Mudbound with a script written by Rees and Marco Villalobos.
In addition to Hathaway and Affleck, The Last Thing He Wanted will star Willem Dafoe (The Florida Project), Toby Jones (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Rosie Perez (Rise), Edi Gathegi (The Blacklist), and Mel Rodriguez (The Last Man on Earth).
Affleck has already worked with Netflix on the original film Triple Frontier, which also stars Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund, and Pedro Pascal. Like The Last Thing He Wanted, Triple Frontier will also deal with drugs as it follows five friends who reunite to take down a South American drug lord. It’s supposed to hit Netflix in 2019. He also recently starred in DC’s Justice League as Batman/Bruce Wayne, but his future with the franchise remains unclear.
Hathaway, who won the Academy Award for her haunting performance in Les Miserables, recently appeared in Oceans 8 and has a whopping 11 projects on the horizon. She will soon be co-starring with Matthew McConaughey in Serenity, a film about a fishing boat captain whose mysterious past comes back to haunt him after his ex-wife pleads him for help.
The Last Thing He Wanted is currently filming in Puerto Rico and will hit Netflix in 2019.

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
