Just days ago, HISTORY announced that it was posing a question that would change everything we knew about how Amelia Earhart spent her last days (possibly longer) on earth. Now, it’s trying to unearth another mystery and this one almost seems just insane enough that it might be real.
American Ripper is an 8 part limited series coming to HISTORY that chronicles the life of H.H Holmes and dares to provide evidence that he was also the notorious serial killer Jack the Ripper. This isn’t a theory that was born overnight, it’s actually one that’s been built over 20 years when Jeff Mudgett realized he was related to H.H Holmes and began researching his life.
Mudgett believes that his great-great grandfather was able to escape his execution and travel to Whitechapel, London where he continued his murderous streak while staying completely under the radar.
Mudgett is a retired attorney but his team, which consists of CIA criminologist Amaryllis Fox – among others, were granted permission to exhume the grave of Holmes to perform a DNA test to support their evidence, however, in the trailer you see that they may have stumbled upon more, or less, than they ever anticipated.
American Ripper will debut on HISTORY July 11th at 10 p.m. Until then, you can check out the trailer and take your own look into who H.H Holmes really was, and if Jack the Ripper was really American.
