We’re all familiar with the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard drama, where allegations of abuse on both sides came out. Fans have had some seriously strong reactions to everything going on with that. To the casual looker, it looks like Amber Heard is a liar and an abuser – two things that have trended on Twitter multiple times. It looks bad for her if I’m being honest. Now Johnny Depp is being boycotted in Hollywood, or at least he claims.
He spoke to the Sunday Times recently, which is where he made the boycotting claims. If this is true, it’s really too bad since it’s looking more and more like he’s not as guilty as Heard made him seem.
During the interview, Depp claims the reason his newest film, Minamata, does not have a U.S release date is because of the legal battles he’s been entangled in. Both with Amber Heard and the libel lawsuit he filed against the British tabloid The Sun back in 2018.
“We looked these people in the eyeballs and promised we would not be exploitative. That the film would be respectful. I believe that we’ve kept our end of the bargain, but those who came in later should also maintain theirs.” he told the Sunday Times.
He went on to say, “Some films touch people. And this affects those in Minamata and people who experience similar things. And for anything… For Hollywood’s boycott of me? One man, one actor in an unpleasant and messy situation, over the last number of years?” and he ended with, “But, you know, I’m moving towards where I need to go to make all that… To bring things to light,” Depp added.
For those who might not know, the tabloid referred to Depp as a “Wife-beater” a few years ago. These claims are what led to the whole drama with Amber Heard that has been going on for multiple years.
If Johnny Depp is being boycotted in Hollywood, things sure aren’t looking good for him.
