And just like that, all of the ladies of Monterey are coming home! It’s been announced that Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz, and Laura Dern will all be returning for season 2 of Big Little Lies, joining the already confirmed Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon. While that is a ton of female star power, the Emmy-Award winning HBO series already upped the ante by casting Meryl Streep to play Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Alexander Skarsgård’s character, Perry earlier this year.
Even though season 1 worked its way through the original source material, Liane Moriarty’s novel of the same name, there is still so much story to tell in the questionably picturesque town of Monterey. HBO promises that season 2 “will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode… the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.”
David E. Kelley will write all of the episodes and Andrea Arnold will direct. Big Little Lies is expected to return in 2019.

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
