The casting for Jason Momoa’s Apple drama See is beginning to shape up nicely.
Apple announced today that the sci-fi drama has added legendary actress Alfre Woodard to star opposite Momoa in the production. Not a whole lot is known about Woodard’s character other than a short description. Woodard will play a character named Paris who is a priestess and an advisor. Momoa will play a character named Baba Voss who is described as a fearless warrior, a leader, and a guardian.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “See is described as an epic, world-building drama set in the future.” The eight-episode series is set in a future during a time where the human race has completely lost the sense of sight. Without the ability to see, society struggles to find new ways to interact, build, hunt, and survive. All of this changes when a set of twins is born with the ability to see once more.
See is written by Steven Knight and is directed by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2). Both Knight and Lawrence will also serve as executive producers along with Peter Chernin, Jenno Toppin and Kristen Campo of Chernin Entertainment. See is a joint venture of Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content.
Woodard is a four-time Emmy winner and Oscar nominee who can currently be seen in Netflix’s Luke Cage. She also starred in the critically-acclaimed film 12 Years a Slave. Woodard’s next project will be taking on the role of Sarabi, Simba’s mother in Jon Favreau’s live-action version of the Disney classic The Lion King.
