Next month fans of 80’s movie classic, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, will have an opportunity to own the car that crushed Cameron Frye’s heart and crashed its way to cinematic stardom. The 1985 Modena GT California Spyder is one of three replicas specifically built to take a beating for the film and considering the eye-popping price tag on an actual 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder, it was clearly a wise decision by director John Hughes. Right from the start, you knew this coveted car was gonna create chaos…

Built by Modena Design and Development in El Cajon, California, the replica Ferrari has a 427 cubic inch V-8, which will get up to 500 horsepower whereas an original 1960 Ferrari 250 GT has a 3.0-liter V-12 engine under the hood but only produces around 275 horsepower. More importantly, the faux-Ferrari looks pretty damn great! While only two of the cars survived film production, one of them fetched a price of $230,000 at an auction in 2013. Mere pennies if you are perhaps the sausage king of Chicago. 😉
Whether a car connoisseur or not, I think we can all agree that this fantastic Ferrari helped to “Shake It Up Baby”. The Smithsonian Institute even gave their seal of approval by inducting it into its Historical Vehicle Association Hall of Fame, making it only the 22nd vehicle to receive that honor.
