‘24’ Prequel in the Works Centering Around Jack Bauer’s Origin Story

The real-time, action-packed life of Jack Bauer could soon be returning to your television!

A new installment of the Fox hit series 24 is reportedly in the work with original series creators Joel Surnow and Bob Cochran. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new series is currently being written by the duo potentially focusing on the early life of everyone’s favorite badass Jack Bauer. Former showrunner Howard Gordon has signed on as executive producer on the project.

THR goes on to explain that the new series would be a prequel of sorts following the origin story of Bauer (originally played by Kiefer Sutherland), Director of Field Ops for the Counter-Terrorist Unit of Los Angeles. Unlike its previous installments such as 24: Legacy and 24: Live Another Day, the prequel series has potential to be an ongoing series rather than limited-run series.

Deadline reports that there might also be a second 24 reboot in the works which the outlet calls a “legal thriller” penned by Gordon and Jeremy Doner.

Sutherland recently hinted at the fact that he may be done playing the intense and physical role, so a prequel focusing on his origin story would be a great way for the network to bring back the beloved character. Currently, no additional details are known and there have been no reports regarding casting.

The original 24 series ran for eight seasons from 2001 to 2010 with each season containing 24 episodes. The show followed Bauer in a race against the clock in order to diffuse terrorist subplots. Each season took place over the course of one full day with each episode representing one hour within that day.

In addition to Sutherland as Jack Bauer, the original show also starred Mary Lynn Rajskub as Chloe O’Brian, Carlos Bernard as Tony Almeida and Elisha Cuthbert as Kim Bauer.
