20TH CENTURY FOX PULLS OUT OF SAN DIEGO COMIC CON

Hall H line at this
year’s San Diego Comic Con will be
slightly shorter this July. One
would
think that this would be a good thing for most of us who spend
countless hours
and even days in
that line just for a slim chance that we might get into one of
the
schedules panels. But before you start
jumping for joy, the reason might
make you want to jump off a bridge
instead.

20th Century Fox has decided to
pull out of this
year’s comic
con claiming piracy concerns. Although the studio will still make
it’s
presence known, it will not be at the
same capacity as in years past. They
will not reveal any trailers or
teasers. SDCC is the ultimate nerd fest
and last
year, leaked footage of Fox’s ‘Deadpool’ and ‘X-Men:
Apocalypse’ showed up
online along
with footage from Warner Bros. ‘Suicide Squad’. The seak

peeks were meant solely for the fans in attendance who had waited overnight.
David Ayer,

director of ‘Suicide Squad’
tweeted his disappointment two days after the
footage was leaked tagging
hashtag #notcool.

Disney, who also had a panel last year, are

considering pulling out as
well. They opted out of showing any trailers of
‘Star Wars: The Force
Awakens’ but instead revealed a
behind-the-scenes video.
They did, however, surprise fans who had waited the
previous night in line as

well as sat through the day’s panels, which included AMC’s ‘The Walking
Dead’
and HBO’s ‘Game of

Thrones’, with an impromptu concert at the beach with cast members, the
San Diego Symphony and
complimentary
light
sabers.

Take it from a person who experienced it first hand…it

was
AWESOME!!!!!!

So,
what will this mean
for all of us nerds this year who will be attending
Comic Con? No Hugh Jackman

(Wolverine) or Gambit (Channing Tatum)? No Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool)? Next
they
will tell us no Norman
Reedus (Daryl Dixon) or Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes). If
that happens I will
seriously be done! Maybe Fox
pulling out has little to do
with piracy issues and more to do with the fact
that they have little to offer

fans. And as for Disney, if they decide not to attend, it could have
something
to do with wanting to
encourage more people to attend their own D23 Expo in
Anaheim, which in
2017, will more than likely be during
the same month as
SDCC.

So whatever the case may be, I’m sure the
thousands of hardcore
fans
and cosplayers won’t let this little hiccup rain on their parades. With it

being one of the biggest pop
culture cons around, SDCC is more than just comics,
artists and toy
collectors/vendors. As long as there are
big blockbuster movies
and Fandoms, to us it really doesn’t matter who
shows up or not. We are just

happy to be there for the experience of it all…or is that just me?? Oh,
you
too? Yeah, I smell nerdy
geek all over you. Hope to see you all there in
July!!!

What are your
thoughts about Fox opting to pull out of
San Diego Comic Con? What
fandoms
would you wait in line overnight to see? Is it worth it to wait in
line to see
a trailer/teaser
before the rest of the world sees it? What is you opinion
about people who
illegally record footage and
then leak it
online?
