‘The Walking Dead’: Update on Michonne’s Departure & Maggie’s Arrival

The Walking Dead is currently on mid-season hiatus but will return on February 23, 2020 at 9 p.m. and fans have already been clued into a major departure and arrival in Season 10. Cailey Fleming, who plays Judith on the show, recently took over The Walking Dead’s Instagram account to answer fan questions.

“I’s like a farewell to Michonne, and it’s a farewell to Danai, and it’s kind of sad to see Danai leave the show,” Fleming said on The Walking Dead‘s Instagram. “She’s been on for so long and I got to bond with her a lot last year [in Season 9], and I’m really grateful for that, and I’m really grateful for the relationship that I get to build with her. I think it’s really amazing, and I love getting to work with her.”

“She works so hard, and she puts so much effort into the show, and she goes 110% out of everything that she does. And so it’s a little bit sad to see her go, but I know whatever she does she’s gonna be amazing at it, and I know she’s gonna follow her dreams,” Fleming said. “She’s gonna do her own thing, you know? She’s gonna be amazing and I’m super happy for her.”

'The Walking Dead': Update on Michonne's Departure & Maggie's Arrival

“For Maggie’s return, I am so excited about it! I’m so excited for you guys to see it. It’s gonna be amazing,” Fleming said. “That’s all I’ll say.”

Maggie has been gone for the entirety of the time-jump since the departure of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln).  Her character has been brought up in conversation but we haven’t heard from or seen her during this period.

Angela Kang has said that Cohan will return for Season 11 as a series regular and Cohan made an appearance at New York Comic Con.  However, Kang has also been teased to possibly return sooner, telling Deadline that, “we may see her before that.”

Our sources confirm that Cohan was been spotted in Atlanta during the final weeks of filming of Season 10. Season 10 wrapped a week or two ago, which is confirmed due to an Instagram post from Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon).

What does Cohan’s return to The Walking Dead mean for the story line? At this point in the comic book’s, Maggie was in a relationship with Dante.  Of course, this can’t be possible on screen now that Dante was killed after the discovery that he was a spy for Alpha (Samantha Morton) and the Whisperers.

We anticipate that Maggie’s return is due to the departure of Michonne (Danai Gurira) and the need for leadership or that it causes the departure of Michonne because Maggie’s mission to seek new communities has led to her discovery of Rick’s location.  There are eight episodes left and that leaves limited room to tell the final chapter in Michonne’s story on The Walking Dead. Along with the impending Whisperer War and the new focus on Negan’s relationship with the Whisperers, there isn’t a lot of room to expand the story lines.

What do you think about the return of Maggie? How will it impact Season 10 of The Walking Dead?  Let us know in the comments below.

  2. l am glad Maggie’s back, but why must Michonne, the team member, the patner in crime of Rick Grimes and his love leave the show, not only that leave the two young children, Judith and J.R Grimes behind…that’s sad. Rick was with his son Carl when he was in late teens. Rick was devastated when Lori died how will he feel on his return home to find out she’s gone!! She shouldn’t leave not yet, not now.

Maggie been gone so long although I’m glad to see her returned im pist that they are so eager to kill off michonne character off they should just do her like they did rick let her survive and let her and rick find each other so they can raise there two kids together I’m tired of our main characters keep dying off I admit since I found out they killing her off I stopped watching they should of done the series like the lost services on ABC where rick wakes up in the hospital and is able to save certain characters in the walking dead like Carl or andrea and michonne I’m said to see how the walking dead is ending and I’ve been a fan from day one but If they kill her off I’m done as a fan
