‘The Walking Dead’: Melissa McBride Didn’t Expect Carol To Survive Season One and an Ezekiel Update

Carol may be the most beloved character on The Walking Dead. Melissa McBride’s portrayal of the character and her growth over the course of ten seasons has been a fan favorite. However, McBride may be the most surprised that Carol is still around on the show.

McBride was asked at German Comic Con Dortmund if she knew in Season One about Carol’s future, “No, I had no idea,” she continued, “I didn’t think she would last for three episodes, her first season. And then I wasn’t sure that she’d survive the second season. And then we have the tenth season… well, I can’t talk about that. In the ninth season, I didn’t think she would… you never know! So I’m extremely surprised. But I’m not surprised.”

“It’s Carol,” she added with a chuckle. “We’ve come to know Carol.”

Carol’s story line and development over ten seasons has seen a domestic abuse survivor and meek woman turn into a confident, aggressive leader.  And, at time, she’s very much been the hero in many instances where the group has been in dire need of saving.

Another fan asked about Carol and Ezekiel’s (Khary Payton) relationship and if there was still more to come between the two.

“I don’t think that Carol and Ezekiel’s story is finished. I know that they care for each other, that’s for sure,” McBride said. “Carol is also in a constant state of recovery from her experiences, and learning and growing, and becoming a stronger person and seeing all that she’s capable of. Everything she never, ever thought she could be. She’s a survivor, she always will be.”

This season has explored much more of Carol’s relationship with Daryl (Norman Reedus) but it continues to feel much more like a best friends relationship and not romantic.  The pair seem to want to stay connected and in close proximity, but there does not appear to be any advances or suggestions that it will go any further.  Caryl doesn’t look it its a thing in Season Ten.

Carol’s primary story in Season Ten has found her in pursuit of Alpha (Samantha Morton) and getting revenge for Henry’s (Matt Lintz) death in Season Nine.  Her somewhat recklnessness desire to kill Alpha has now put her group in a dangerous position in a cave full of walkers.

What do you think about think about Carol’s growth and her mission in Season Ten to kill Alpha?

  1. I AM IN LOVE WITH THE WALKING DEAD AND CAROL I LOVE HER AND I HOPE HER AND EZEKIEL GET BACK TOGETHER THEY WERE GOOD TOGETHER. THEY NEED TO FIND MY MAN NORMAN REEDUS SOME ONE AS WELL I LOVE HIM ALSO.

  2. I love the Walking Dead and have been watching it since it first started but I don’t like those people who dresses up like zombies!

  3. Carol is a big disappointment to me. She should have never followed Alpha and lead everyone to danger. Very selfish move.
