Star Wars: ‘The Mandalorian’ Is Boba Fett Back as ‘The Gunslinger’?

The Mandalorian’s fifth episode premiered this past Friday and it left fans with a bit of mystery!

SPOILERS AHEAD

The episode was titled ‘The Gunslinger’ and, at first, one would think that the application of the title would apply to our lead character, Mando (Pedro Pascal). However, up until the very last minute of the episode, there is nothing to indicate that our Mando is ‘The Gunslinger.’

In the closing moments of the episode, we see Fennec (Ming-Na Wen) laying on the ground. We are not sure if she is dead or alive. As Fennec lays on the ground, someone approaches her body and all we see are boots and a long jacket.

Who is this ‘Gunslinger?’

We know that there are a couple of characters who we haven’t met yet on the series. The most notable is Giancarlo Esposito’s character, Governor Moff Gideon. However, his character isn’t listed in the credits for Episode Six. The most significant actor listed in the credits for the sixth episode would be Mark Boone Junior. However, his character’s name is not provided.

There are theories abound that the ‘Gunslinger’ is non other than Boba Fett himself. However, as much as we want to believe this possibility, it’s highly unlikely given his canonical death in Return of the Jedi. Yet, there is some support for this theory. The fifth episode is on Tattooine and there is the chance of escape.

As well, why would Boba Fett be tracking Mando? Unless he’s come to help, it appears from the previous episodes that the Mandalorian guild are on his side and protecting Mando and ‘The Child’ aka Baby Yoda.

Star Wars: 'The Mandalorian' Is Boba Fett Back as 'The Gunslinger'?

This would not be the first time we’ve seen a Star Wars show bring a character back to life. Clone Wars, which so happens to be from the fifth episode’s writer and director, Dave Filoni, brought back Darth Maul from his canonical death to give him a new life.

If we had to take a real guess, we are going to go with Mark Boone Junior in an unnamed character role. As much as we’d love for it to be Boba Fett and see how that plays out in the story of our Mandalorian, we just don’t think they want the limelight stolen from Mando.
