‘The Last Starfighter’ Sequel is On Its Way!

Gravy Whitta, writer of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Book of Eli, The Walking Dead and other films and shows, took to Twitter to reveal he’s been working on another project, a sequel to The Last Starfighter. The Last Starfighter is fan-favorite among science fiction fans.

Fans will remember the original film which followed Alex Rogan (Lance Guest) who after finally achieving the high score on Starfighter, his favorite arcade game, Alex meets the game’s designer, Centauri, who reveals that he created Starfighter as a training ground for developing and recruiting actual pilots to help fight a war in space.

Whisked away from the banality of his trailer park life to a distant alien planet, Alex struggles to use his video game-playing skills to pilot a real ship, with real lives at stake.

Whitta posted to Twitter, “Lots of people reacting like they had no idea I’ve been working on a sequel to THE LAST STARFIGHTER. Yup, writing and producing it with original writer/creator
@jonbetuel. Check out some of the concept art I posted last year…”

Back in April, Whitta posted some early concept art for the film created by Matt Allsopp, who also was the lead concept artist for Rogue One. “Okay, probably shouldn’t show you this so early but here’s a little something I’ve been tinkering on with my co-writer Jonathan Betuel. You might recognize the ships. Thanks to the amazing Matt Allsopp (lead concept artist on ROGUE ONE) for creating these images for us.”

While we’re guessing that the film is still years away from making its way to the screen, we’re excited to see that development and writing is underway for the film.
