Star Wars: Princess Leia Takes Luke’s Lightsaber in Final Trailer

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker arrives in theaters on December 20th and fans get a few more details of the Star Wars saga’s final film.  The trailer shows Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) yielding Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber, among many other great images.

Leia, standing in front of a forest full of trees, palms, vines and ferms, is holding the lightsaber of her brother, Luke.  We hear Luke say, “We’ve passed on all we know. A thousand generations live in you now. But this is your fight,” as he’s speaking to Rey.

Full of images of ships, battles, and confrontation between Rey and Kylo Ren, we hear Palpatine say, ‘This is the final battle.” Of course, we all know Palpatine as Darth Sidious, who mentored Darth Vader.

J.J. Abrams returns to direct the final film of the nine part saga.  The film is described as, “The surviving Resistance faces the First Order once more as Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron’s journey continues. With the power and knowledge of generations behind them, the final battle commences.”

Palpatine is not the only character returning for the final film, along with fan-favorites C-3PO, R2-D2, and Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) also returns to fly the Millennium Falcon once again!

Like all great endings, fans are hoping that this final film answers a lot of questions that the past films have not addressed.  The biggest mystery continues to be, ‘Who are Rey’s parents?’  Rey’s background story is largely unknown and potentially an axis point to the climax of this final film.
