Throughout the seasons, The Walking Dead timeline has gotten a bit murky because of the time jumps.
In season 9 alone, we jumped forward 18 months before the season began and again another 6 years about halfway through. We also had a few flashback moments to help fill in the gaps.
Showrunner Angela Kang confirms that we will get more flashbacks.
“Yes, I will say that there’s some flashbacks this season. One of the things we were kind of dealing with in the season has to do with illusion and people’s fears and what’s real, what’s not, the weight of the past on people. So, we’ll definitely see some windows into the past that kind of shed light on the present. It should be interesting.”
One of the big moments we will get to see through these flashbacks is connected to Siddiq’s memories of when he was captured by the Whisperers at the festival.
If you remember, Siddiq was also captured but was left alive to spread the story of what had happened and scare the communities. Instead, he tells the story of a heroic last stand. The captured fought back and killed several whisperers before Alpha overpowered them.
Kang along with new images from the season hint that we will be fed a lot of information. Kang assured that these flashbacks will extend beyond exposition.
“There is some other stuff going on,” she hints. “There’s some pretty cool stuff, I think.”
The Walking Dead returns Oct. 6 on AMC.
