Hot Takes From The ‘Call Of Duty Modern Warfare’ Beta

Hey guys! We are in the first weekend of beta testing for Call Of Duty Modern Warfare! An exclusive to PS4 alpha dropped a few weeks back and gave us an idea of the gameplay, but when the beta opens you really get a sense of how the game will play. So just how is Call Of Duty Modern Warfare? I have a couple of hot takes from my little bit of time with it.

Call Of Duty Battlefield Warfare

This may not be the most original take, but oh well. Call Of Duty has never felt as much like a Battlefield game as this one does. And I don’t mean that in a bad way. Maybe it’s because we’ve had more recent experience in a modern setting with Battlefield 4. While that may be the case, it actually feels good. Modern Warfare is familiar, and that’s something we haven’t felt in years.

Respawn

No, I’m not talking about the studio formed of previous Infinity Ward employees. Although if you haven’t heard, several returned to Infinity Ward so the game may benefit from it. This isn’t the first time a Call Of Duty has suffered from respawn areas being terrible, and it probably won’t be the last time. But respawning in only to be immediately killed sucks. Add in respawning in the same place three times and having the same guy kill you a few times before you get him back? Frustrating. It’ll be worked on and possibly be fixed a month afterwards, but shouldn’t we be past this issue by now?

Dem Guns Doe

Call Of Duty is fun because it has guns. Military simulation has been a fantasy taken advantage of by many game developers, and it will be for years to come. But man, these guns feel good to shoot. It’s easy to tell Infinity Ward has been focused on not building around the previous foundation and going on something more realistic. The arcadey feel is gone. Gun recoil is more similar to Titanfall than to Black Ops, and I like it. They’ve even slowed the pace in what may be the most stunning development of the series. It may not be as slow as Battlefield, but it’s a far cry from Black Ops 4.

All in all, I’m really enjoying what I’ve played. I hope to get more time in the beta, especially next week once the cross play test kicks in. With Ground War being developed into something of much bigger scale I also can’t wait to see that. If you get a chance, play as soon as it opens up to everyone on PlayStation 4 on September 14th-16th, and then to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC September 21st-23rd.
