Sony Acquires Insomniac Games

Sony has announced that it will be acquiring Insomniac Games, the studio responsible for Marvel’s Spider-ManRatchet & Clank and Spyro the Dragon.

Sony announced the news via their Twitter account.

The news shouldn’t come as a massive surprise, especially when you consider the relationship between Insomniac Games and Sony. Together, the two have developed exclusive titles like Spyro, Spider-Man, Resistance and, of course, Ratchet & Clank.

Shawn Layden, the chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, had this to say about Sony’s newest partnership:

“Insomniac Games is one of the most highly-acclaimed development studios in the industry and their legacy of best-in class storytelling and gameplay is unparalleled.”

“We have enjoyed a strong collaborative partnership with the studio for many years, and are thrilled to officially welcome them to the Worldwide Studios family”

Insomniac Games have not yet announced their next project. However, it is possible that a sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man could be in the works soon. When you consider the game’s success and the new acquisition, it would only make sense to move forward with a sequel.

What would you like to see next from Insomniac Games? A sequel to Spider-Man or something entirely different? Let us know in the comments below.
