Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe Test Their Sanity in ‘The Lighthouse’ Trailer

“How long have we been on this rock? Five weeks? Two days? Help me to recollect,” Willem Dafoe’s character Thomas Wake asks at the end of the trailer for The Lighthouse.

The Lighthouse chronicles the gritty adventures of two lighthouse keepers as they are faced with loneliness, friendship and their worst fears. The keepers battle madness and chaotic visions while stranded on a remote New England island in the 1890s.

Written by Robert and Max Eggers, The Lighthouse premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and wowed critics.

Max Eggers told Deadline Studio attendees at Cannes the film was “something a little weirder” than his 2015 debut feature, “more dreadful than horror.”

The Lighthouse is produced by Youree Henley, producer of the upcoming Mister Rogers movie Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood with Tom Hanks, and is co-produced by Jeffrey Penman.

The Lighthouse hits theaters Oct. 18.
