Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, Team 17‘s follow up to the widely loved 2017 platformer Yooka-Laylee, has released a new trailer highlighting the sequel’s unique alternate-state level design system.
In the game, the levels are affected by the various actions that players take on the world map. You can flood areas, turn on massive fans, or even flip entire levels upside down, with each action opening up alternate routes through the level and allowing access to previously unreachable locations. This exciting new gameplay mechanism grants players access to a wide range of alternate level states and creates a unique puzzle aspect to the overarching world map.
You can view the new trailer below:
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will task players with rescuing members of Queen Phoebee’s Royal Beettalion from Capital B and will feature 20 unique and exciting 2.5D levels, each with a Royal Beettalion member to rescue. Adding in the alternate level state will raise the total number of levels to 40!
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will be released on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the PC in Q4, 2019.
