’The Good Doctor’s Jasika Nicole Promoted to Series Regular for Season 3

Great news for all The Good Doctor fans who are Sharly shippers! Actress Jasika Nicole, who plays Carly on ABC’s hit drama, is now a series regular for the show’s 3rd season. A brand-new press release from ABC formally lists Nicole with the rest of the top-billed cast. That means that things are looking promising that we will be seeing more of Carly and Shaun’s budding relationship in the upcoming new season.

Fans will recall that in the season 2 finale, Dr. Shaun Murphy finally worked up the courage to ask a girl out on a date. That girl was none other than Carly Lever, one of San Jose St. Bonaventure’s Pathologists. The second season ended with Shaun walking up to a house, flowers in hand, ready to finally take a step forward into the dating world. The Good Doctor viewers were stunned when Carly was the one to answer the door. Shaun mustered up all his courage to ask Carly out on a date, and she accepted. This surprising scene all led to this adorable moment of sheer joy for Shaun:

Noticeably missing from the press release was veteran actress Tamlyn Tomita. Tomita plays Allegra Aoki, chairwoman of the board that runs St. Bonaventure. It would appear that Tomita will now be in a recurring role on the series.

In addition to the casting changes, the press release also revealed some interesting hints at what’s to come in season 3.

The press release reads as follows:

It certainly looks like viewers can expect to see a whole new side of Dr. Shaun Murphy in season 3, and we’re totally here for it!

The Good Doctor stars Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital with autism and savant syndrome. In addition to Highmore, the series also stars Antonia Thomas as Dr. Claire Browne, Nicholas Gonzalez as Dr. Neil Melendez, Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews, Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman, Christina Chang as Dr. Audrey Lim, Fiona Gubelmann as Dr. Morgan Reznick, Will Yun Lee as Dr. Alex Park, Paige Spara as Lea Dilallo and the newly promoted Jasika Nicole as Dr. Carly Lever.

The series is from Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios. David Shore is the executive producer and showrunner. Daniel Dae Kim, Erin Gunn, David Kim, and Sebastian Lee are also executive producers.

The Good Doctor will return for its 3rd season on September 23th on ABC.
