‘Young Sheldon’ Recap “A Swedish Science Thing and the Equation for Toast”

John and Sheldon are playing with a short wave radio. They plan on listening to the Noble Prize winners live. But first, they have to put the antenna on the roof, well make George do it. Sheldon then invites the whole school to listen to the broadcast. Missy politely explains why this breakfast party is a dumb idea. Sheldon, of course, ignores her. Unfortunately, no one comes to his party.

John starts acting odd, like weeding goosegrass in the dark odd. The next day in class, John hacked into the mainframe triggering an alarm and a short chase. He’s fine but Meemaw goes to check on him. He apparently struggles with reality and is having another episode. When he misses dinner, Meemaw goes looking for him and finds him on the roof of his building.

Meanwhile, Georgie gets cable and is paying for it himself. The smartass put a parental control lock on the TV so George starts billing him. There’s even a “pain in my ass” tax. Needless to say, Georgie gives up the pin.

The parallels between this finale and the Big Bang Finale were delightfully tearjerking. John predicts that Sheldon wins a Nobel and he does mention his father in his acceptance speech. OMG the young Big Bang gang at the end was so cute. I hope they do more of this in future episodes. This finale was great in its own right but I’m worried for John. We’ll see what season 3 brings.

  1. The scenes with John broke my heart. My father had Alzheimer’s and this brought up a lot of those memories. I know it’s not the same disease, but there are a lot of parallels. This is such a wonderful character (and a wonderful actor) and I would hate to see John written out of the show.
