R. Reynolds “Leaks” Full ‘Detective Pikachu’ Movie on YouTube

Warner Bros. live-action Detective Pikachu doesn’t hit theaters until later this week, however, it appears that the film has already been “leaked” on the Internet.

In what can only be described as a highly amusing and hilarious marketing ploy, film star Ryan Reynolds called attention to a mysterious tweet today which claimed to be hosting a video for the full-length film. The tweet came from an account with the name “Inspector Pikachu.” The account was created this month and only has one tweet. This tweet. Reynolds replied to the apparent offender and then retweeted the account alerting Warner Bros. to the piracy violation. With no action taken in over 6 hours at the time of this article being written, it’s clear that Reynolds just pulled off a hysterical prank.

Anyone brave enough to actually click on the video will discover one hour and forty-three minutes worth of Pikachu-style Rick-Rolling goodness which seems to be leaked by none other than Reynolds himself. If you look closely at the beginning of the video, “R. Reynolds” appears on the upper left-hand corner of the screen. The “film” begins with what seems to be a legit, brief snippet of the film before Pikachu busts in with a delightful surprise, and we’re obsessed with it!

Check out the tweet from Reynolds below as well as the apparent “leaked” video:

The real live-action film is directed by Rob Letterman (Goosebumps, Monsters Vs. Aliens) and stars Reynolds as everyone’s favorite titular Pokemon, Pikachu. The film also stars Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) as Tim; Kathryn Newton (Lady Bird, TV’s Big Little Lies) as Lucy, a junior reporter following her first big story; and Oscar nominee Ken Watanabe (Godzilla, The Last Samurai) as Lt. Yoshida.
