Aquaman star Jason Momoa is shaking things up a bit on his YouTube channel, and it’s all for a great cause.
Earlier this year, Momoa launched his own YouTube channel documenting his travels around the world. There are videos showcasing his recent visits to London, Tokoyo, Manila, New York, and more cities all over the globe, most of which follow his press tour for Aquaman and filming for his Netflix series Frontier. Momoa’s most recent video, however, has his fans in a little bit of shock while also applauding the actor’s naturally good-willed nature.
Momoa posted a new video on Thursday titled Goodbye Drogo…I SHAVED! Yes. The video is precisely what you would expect it to be, and it’s also so much more.
The video starts with Momoa walking through the middle of a desert with one of his buddies. There is noticeably a lot of trash on the ground. Momoa says that 2012 was probably the last time he shaved, and he has a razor with him. He begins to trim off his iconic beard, with each swipe of the razor saying “goodbye” to one of his bearded badass characters. “Goodbye Drogo! Bye Arthur Curry! Bye Declan!”
It’s then that he reveals the real message of the video. Momoa’s intent on filming the shaving of his iconic facial hair was not to cause a stir over his physical appearance but to gain attention to deliver an important message about taking care of our planet. As he continues to shave off his beard, he said, “I just want to do this to bring awareness that plastics are killing our planet and I think I have a solution. I don’t want to bitch about it. There’s only one thing that can really help our planet and save our planet, as long as we recycle, and that’s aluminum.”
In the 4-minute video, Momoa’s facial hair gets less and less while he continues to discuss the importance of cleaning, protecting and preserving the earth and revealing a new aluminum canned water. We love seeing Momoa’s new, fresh face, but we love seeing him using his platform to send such a powerful and kind-hearted message even more.
