With the first Crackdown already backwards compatible and Crackdown 3 releasing last month, one wondered what the holdup was on Crackdown 2 making it to Xbox One. After waiting and waiting, Larry Hryb otherwise known as Major Nelson for Xbox finally dropped the news we all had been waiting for.

The tweet reads –
Crackdown 2 is coming to Xbox One Backward Compatibility today and will be available for free mjr.mn/BackCompat
That is definitely a nice deal! Not only can you play it on Xbox One now, but you can go grab it for free! As of the time of this writing, you can still go here and grab Crackdown 2 for your collection. Crazy enough, you can go here and grab the original Crackdown for free as well! Add in the trifecta of Crackdown 3 hitting Game Pass, and you can play the entire trilogy for pennies on the dollar.
If you would like to check out a quick history of the series before the third, check out this video made by yours truly-
The Crackdown series has not been the building block franchise that Microsoft had hoped for. Crackdown sold well, but it had the Halo 3 beta attached to it. Crackdown 2 did not do great, and Crackdown 3 has met with middling reviews, especially given how long it took to release. Crackdown 3 was also very different in terms of features than what had originally been touted during it’s E3 2014 press reveal.
While it may not be Halo or Gears Of War, a free game is a free game. It is also a mainline series from Microsoft, so there is some quality there. Did I mention it was completely free?
Crackdown 2 is available right now on the Xbox Marketplace, FOR FREE. Go grab it for your Xbox 360 and now, Xbox One. Have you ever played the Crackdown series? Do you think you would give it a try for free? Tell us about it down below in the comments and give us your best Terry Crews impression.
