‘Mad About You’ Revival Finds a Network With Original Star Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt

After months of no news, and things looking increasingly grim for the upcoming Mad About You revival, the series has finally found a new home network for the Buchmans. A limited series run of the Mad About You revival, along with its original stars Paul Reiser an Helen Hunt, will be heading to Spectrum Originals, the premium streaming platform from Charter Communications. Peter Tolan (Rescue Me, Outsiders) has been tapped as showrunner on the Sony Pictures Television production which is expected to premiere in late 2019.

In a joint statement, Reiser and Hunt gushed with excitement over the news and about working with Tolan. The two said:

[row]“We are so excited to finally be doing this and thrilled to have Peter Tolan as our fearless captain. We promise you the same funny and heartwarming show – as soon as we can remember what’s funny about being older. It’s going to be great!”[/row]

Katherine Pope, Head of Original Content at Charter Communications, echoed the series stars’ excitement saying:

[row]“We are beyond thrilled to team up with Sony Pictures Television to give ‘Mad About You’ an exclusive home at Spectrum Originals. Two decades ago, fans fell in love with this show, and this time will be no different as Paul, Helen and Peter explore modern marriage through the eyes of two people who have just become empty-nesters. We can’t wait for everyone to fall in love with the Buchmans all over again. ”[/row]

Fans of the original series will remember leaving Paul and Jamie Buchman (Reiser and Hunt respectively) shortly after the birth of their daughter with a series finale that jumped into the future. Their daughter, Mabel (fans will remember her name stands for Mother’s Always Bring Extra Love), became a filmmaker and was making an autobiography on her life and the life of her parents. The new series will seemingly jump back in time from that finale and focus on the couple after Mabel has just been accepted to college and is about to leave home for the first time.

Mad About You officially wrapped in 1999 after seven seasons on the air. During its time on air, the series received five Emmy nominations for Best Comedy with Helen Hunt winning for Best Actress in a Comedy Series four years in a row.
