With Shadowhunters coming to a close, Harry Shum Jr. has booked his next role. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor is set to star opposite How to Get Away With Murder’s Katie Findlay in Heart of Life, a drama based on the John Mayer song.
The series “follows two sets of adult siblings from wildly different worlds who discover they are related and must reassess everything they thought they knew about their shared father. As they explore the mystery of their separate childhoods, they’ll experience the difficulty in overcoming the sins of the past, and learn the joys of reuniting with long-lost family.” Shum will be playing Brendan, “a self-centered world traveler who is good at getting by on his father’s money and is often the voice of reason” and Findlay will play Sydney, “an ambitious, caring and awkward type-A personality who takes over her father’s architecture firm.”
The pilot will be directed by Anne Fletcher and written by Powerless’ Ben Queen who will also executive produce. John Mayer will serve as EP as well alongside Melvin Mar, Jake Kasdan, and Paul Weitz.
Shum got his big TV break when he starred on Fox’s musical dramedy Glee. He played Mike Chang for the series’ entire six-season run. Shortly after he joined Freeform’s Shadowhunters, which ran for three seasons with a cult following before being canceled. He recently appeared in the box-office smash Crazy Rich Asians and will soon appear in Burn and The Escape Plan: The Extractor. Fans of The Killing may recognize Katie Findlay from her role as Rosie Larson in the series’ first season. She has since appeared in The Carrie Diaries, The Magicians, How to Get Away With Murder and Man Seeking Woman.
