‘Walking Dead’ Actress Sarah Wayne Callies Books NBC Pilot ‘Council of Dads’

Sarah Wayne Callies will soon find herself starring in another small screen family drama, except this time there will be a lot less “apocalyptic” vibes. The Walking Dead and Colony alum is set to headline a new NBC pilot called Council of Dads, which is based on the bestselling memoir of the same name from Bruce Feiler.

According to TVLinewho first confirmed the news, Council of Dads will follow Scott and Robin, “a couple whose lives are thrown into upheaval when Scott gets a potentially terminal diagnosis. Facing his mortality, the pair assemble a unique group of carefully chosen friends to support their family — which includes four children — and guide them through the ups and downs of life’s many challenges.” Callies will be playing Robin.

While the character of Scott has yet to be cast, August Richards (Angel) has been cast to play his oncologist Dr. Oliver Post and Michele Weaver (Love Is __) has been cast to play Scott’s oldest daughter Luly. The series will be written and executive produced by Joan Rater and Tony Phelan of CBS’ Doubt.

Since wrapping The Walking Dead back in 2013, Callies reprised her Prison Break role for a special revival and appeared on USA’s three season series Colony alongside Lost’s Josh Holloway. Her latest miniseries Unspeakable is currently airing Canada and chronicles the emergence of HIV and Hepatitis C in the early ’80s and the tragedy that followed when thousands were unnecessarily infected by tainted blood. She is also set to provide her voice to an animated adventure film titled Elena’s Serenade.

What do you think about Callies’ new pilot? Would you like to see it picked up to series?
