All of the Winners from the 2019 SAG Awards
Hosted by Will and Grace’s Megan Mullally, the Screen Actors Guild Awards took place last night, honoring the best in movies and television from the past year. Traditionally, the SAG Awards are the biggest indicator as to who will be walking away with Oscars next month, but there were definitely some surprises, leaving a lot up in the air for some major categories.
Over in film, Rami Malek walked away with Best Actor for his turn as Freddy Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, beating Vice’s Christian Bale for the first time in the category. Glenn Close also won for her role in The Wife, seemingly securing her Oscar over A Star is Born’s Lady Gaga. Black Panther made history by winning the coveted Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, which is basically the SAG’s “Best Picture” award. While it would be monumental in the industry for the Marvel film to win the Oscar for Best Picture, this category does seem to be a question mark. Emily Blunt also had a surprising win for her turn in A Quiet Place, but since she wasn’t even nominated in the Oscar’s Supporting Actress category, it’s hard to tell which way that one will go as well.
In television, NBC’s This Is Us walked away with the win for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series and their reaction was just as emotional as the show. Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel continued its award show domination with three wins out of four nominations including Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy. Jason Bateman won for Leading Actor in a Drama Series for Ozark and Sandra Oh deservingly walked away with Leading Actress for Killing Eve. Darren Criss also won in the miniseries category, giving him a full sweep with the Emmy, Golden Globe, and Critics’ Choice and Satellite Award.

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
