USA Picks Up Rosario Dawson’s ‘Briarpatch’ to Series

Just days after USA Network announced that they’d be renewing their long-running legal drama Suits for a ninth and final season, a new series is being added to the lineup. Rosario Dawson’s Briarpatch, which received a pilot order last July, has been given a full series order. Briarpatch is based on the novel of the same name written by Ross Thomas and is being adapted for television by Legion’s Andy Greenwald and Mr. Robot’s Sam Esmail. Castle Rock’s Ana Lily Amirpour directed the pilot.

According to TVLinethe series follows Dawson as “Allegra “Pick” Dill, a determined investigator who returns to her corrupt Texas hometown after her sister is killed. Allegra’s search for the murderer eventually turns into a dangerous excavation of her own past.”  The series also includes a supporting cast of Mad Men’s Jay R. Ferguson, Chicago P.D.’s Brian Geraghty, and The Blacklist’s Edi Gathegi.

Briarpatch joins a couple of new USA series in the pipeline including the Suits spinoff Pearsonwhich follows Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) as she opens up a new practice in Chicago and TreadstoneBourne-Identity series based on the fictional CIA black ops organization.

Dawson has appeared as Claire Temple in a variety of series within Netflix’s Marvel universe including Luke Cage, The Defenders, Iron Fist and Daredevil. She has also been recurring on The CW’s Jane the Virgin. In film, Dawson is teaming up with Gina Rodriguez and Brittany Snow for Someone Great, a romantic comedy about three best friends who travel to New York City after one of them goes through a nasty break-up.
