This is the greatest news! Even though it’s been well over a year since The Greatest Showman hit theaters and completely stole the hearts of musical-lovers everywhere, we are constantly still jamming out to its amazing original music.
While the film ended with P.T. Barnum raising that iconic circus tent, it’s hard to imagine that the spectacular story ended there. Well, while speaking to Radio 5 recently, Hugh Jackman revealed that if everything felt right, he would love to reprise what was one of his most meaningful roles.
Not to mention, despite being a passion project for Jackman, the film made some serious waves at the box office and the charts, making a sequel a solid business decision as well. Since its 2017 release, which ended up bringing in over $434 million worldwide, The Greatest Showman has become the third highest grossing musical in North America and globally. It received Golden Globe nominations for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Actor – Musical or Comedy for Jackman and took home the award for Best Original Song for its powerful anthem “This Is Me”. The song was also nominated for Best Original Song at last year’s Academy Awards but unfortunately did not take the win.
On top of its impressive Box Office run, the film’s soundtrack also went on to become a global success. With original music and lyrics written by the masterminds behind La La Land and Dear Evan Hansen, the soundtrack topped the charts in several countries including the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Japan, reaching number one on iTunes in over 77 countries.
The film, which was released in theaters last Christmas, was inspired by the story of P. T. Barnum’s creation of the Barnum & Bailey Circus and the lives of its star attractions. It starred Hugh Jackman as Barnum, Michelle Williams as his wife, and Zac Efron as his business partner Phillip Carlyle. Zendaya also starred in the film as Anne Wheeler, an acrobat, trapeze artist in the show and Keala Settle took on the role of the Bearded Lady.

While we wait for a potential sequel, fans can catch Jackman as he embarks on a world tour to take the stage and sing songs from The Greatest Showman and Les Miserables as well as other tunes from Broadway and Film. It’s titled“The Man. The Music. The Show” and you can see the full list of tour dates here.
