Legendary actor Al Pacino (The Godfather) is about to make his television series debut. Deadline reports that Pacino is days away from signing on to star in Jordan Peele’s upcoming Amazon drama titled The Hunt, alongside Logan Lerman who snagged the lead role at the end of last year. The series, which is an original idea that’s inspired by true events, is set to follow “a group of Nazi hunters living in New York City in 1977.” Amazon handed it a straight to series, 10-episode order back in May.
Lerman will be starring as Jonah Heidelbaum, a young man who sets out to find the mysterious intruder who murdered his grandmother. Along the way, he finds himself involved with an organization known as The Hunt who seek justice against Nazi war criminals living in the United States under new identities. Pacino will be playing the Nazi Hunter who mentors Jonah.
The series is created and written by Moonfall’s David Weil with Nikki Toscano serving as the series’ showrunner and executive producer. Academy Award winner Jordan Peele (Get Out) will be producing the series under his Monkeypaw Productions banner.
While The Hunt marks Pacino’s first series regular role, the actor has starred in a couple of telepics including Paterno, where he played Penn State’s scandalized football coach Joe Paterno. He also won two Emmy Awards for his roles as Roy Cohn in Angels In America and Jack Kevorkian in You Don’t Know Jack. The actor, of course, iconically starred in the Godfather films as well as Scarface, Serpico, and Heat. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1993 for Scent of a Woman.
