Beth’s Mom is Finally Coming to ‘This Is Us’ and the Casting is Perfect

Between Jack, Rebecca, and William there are some pretty epic parents on This Is Us, and now we’re finally going to meet one that fans have been hoping to see for seasons – Beth’s Mom! This Is Us is notorious for fantastic casting, so it shouldn’t come as any surprise that they’ve cast iconic TV mom Phylicia Rashad for the role. Rashad is best known for her role as Clair Huxtable on The Cosby Show.

According to Entertainment WeeklyRashad will be playing Beth’s Mom, Carol who will be making her This Is Us debut in the back half of season three, which lines up perfectly with Beth’s backstory episode that we’ve been promised. At Kate and Toby’s wedding, fans were introduced to Beth’s cousin Zoe, who went on to become a major love interest for Kevin throughout the first half of season three, but that hasn’t stopped fans from wanting to know more about their mysterious family past the two are always alluding to.

Rashad earned two Emmy nominations for her eight-season run on The Cosby Show, which wrapped in 1992, and has since then appeared in multiple projects on both the big and small screen. Most recently she reprised her role as Mary Anne Creed in Creed II alongside Michael B. Joran and Sylvester Stallone and has been recurring on Fox’s musical drama Empire. Other credits include Psych, Jean-Claude Van Johnson, Tour de Pharmacy, and The Cleveland Show.
