Only 4 of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Players Are Actually Avengers

Avengers: Infinity War at first glance seemed to be full of heroes. Any old movie-goer could be confised into thinking that every person on camera is an Avengers. That is far from the truth.

Only 4 out of the 24 heroes on screen are actually official members of The Avengers.

in 2012, Nick Fury activated the Avengers Initiative. The members expanded in Age of Ultron, and then again in Captain America: Civil War. Now, it’s looking more and more like Marvel naming Avengers: Infinity War with Avengers in the title may not have been accurate.

Reddit user TheChloride Thief reminded fans of this recently in a post mentioning that the only heroes that can truly be classified as Avengers are Iron Man, War Machine, Vision and Spider-Man. This is beacuase of the events in the previous films and the Sokovia Accords, which make it clear that all of Earthly heroes were never Avengers or were cast out.

By cast out, we mean actual fugitives. Captain America, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch and Falcon are all fugitives. Doctor Strange, Wong and Black Panther were not ever signed to the Sokovia Accords. Wakanda may not even know they exist. Lastly, Hulk and Thor were from completely different worlds.

Something that fans also noticed immediately during Infinity War was the bulk of Guardians of The Galaxy characters present. Some fans even jokingly said, “Avengers: Infinity War was really Guardians of The Galaxy 3.” There were more of them than actual Avengers.

There’s also an arguable question whether or not Spider-Man is an Avenger at all. He was definitely given Tony Stark’s blessing, but he hasn’t signed the Sokovia Accords that we know of.

Of course, after Thanos’ snap, we’re only left with two Avengers heading into Endgame. Vision and Spider-Man are both dust.

Avengers: Endgame hits theaters April 26, 2019. It is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, and stars Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Chadwick Boseman, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland and Anthony Mackie.
