Multiple ‘Transformers’ Movies in Production

With such a positive reception to Bumblebee, which is currently sitting at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, what hope lies for the future of the heroic Autobots and the villainous Decepticons?

Has the franchise completely exhausted itself? Is there anymore Energon to keep the Transformers going?

Well, Lorenzo di Bonaventura- the producer who has shepherd the Transformers from the very start, seems to think there is more to tell especially now that the series has experienced what appears to be a reboot.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, di Bonaventura says that there are currently plans on producing two new spin-offs. The success of Bumblebee has opened the door for an array of new movies including an Optimus Prime film.

According to di Bonaventura, their first choice was a Bumblebee movie because “he’s such a loved figure, and he’s also more emotional than Optimus”. Now that Bumblebee has had a positive impact on the audiences who were dubious, it seems that an Optimus Prime movie might be closer than we think despite di Bonaventura’s fear on doing a Optimus Prime spin-off. Di Bonaventura says:

“It will be hard with Optimus, he is always right, very stoic and is a man of few words … It is kind of like saying, ‘Lets do a movie about Obi-Wan Kenobi?’ But how much is there to say about Obi-Wan? It is not so easy.”

However, it seems that the writing team behind Bumblebee have their Energon sensors set on a sequel to Bumblebee as di Bonaventura says that the team now have a good sense of where a second film could go and what kind of directions future films can go in.

In addition to that, di Bonaventura has confirmed the production of an animated movie set purely on Cybertron that is still set within the canon and that dwells deep into Cybertronian mythology. This opens up a number of doors. Could we get an origin story explaining the relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron? Will we see the journey Orion Pax goes on to become the great Optimus Prime? The possibilities are vast and definitely exciting for Transformers fans.

The franchise is clouded in mystery at the moment. What is clear is that this is the start of a new era for the metal beings of Cybertron. So many questions have been raised thanks to the success of Bumblebee.

When will we see the Transformers return onto the big screen? And what adventures will we see them go on?

Let’s just say this…

There is more to this than meets the eye.
