Heading into 2019, you’d be hard pressed to find a series with more hype than the upcoming final season of Game of Thrones. Now that we are only about four months away from the show’s return, the cast and crew are slowly becoming more vocal about what eager fans can expect. Of course, in typical Game of Thrones fashion, what they have to say always tends to lean more towards the grim and despairing side of things.
While promoting her new film Welcome to Marwen, Gwendoline Christie, who plays the lovable Brienne of Tarth on the show, stepped up to the plate to warn fans that this coming season is going to rock their worlds and probably traumatize them, which…fair.
Christie isn’t wrong in the slightest. Game of Thrones has been the most popular series on cable since its premiere in 2011. It has won countless prestigious awards, inspired college courses, and brought millions of people together from all over the world. It’s going to be a devastating day for pop culture when its series finale eventually airs.
While there haven’t been too many details revealed about the specifics of the season, Game of Thrones’ co-executive producer Bryan Cogman also spoke with Entertainment Weekly earlier this year and dropped some minor hints for fans about what to expect from the farewell season.
Other members of the cast have also been teasing some little nuggets about season 8 over the past year as well. Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark told Digital Spy earlier this year that the season is certainly “unpredictable”.
But, one piece of definitive good news? Ghost will be back!
What are your thoughts about Christie & Co.’s comments? How are you mentally preparing for Game of Thrones’ final season? Let us know! As of now, the series is slated to return sometime in April!
