Benicio del Toro Joins the Live-Action ‘Dora the Explorer’ Film

Swiper, no swiping! Swiper, NO swiping!

The upcoming live-action Dora the Explorer film has officially cast the voice of the kleptomaniac fox. Iconic actor Benicio del Toro will be voicing the role of Swiper the fox from the popular Nickelodeon cartoon.

Though the film has already wrapped filming of its live-action scenes, The Hollywood Reporter says that it’s not uncommon for voice roles, such as del Toro’s, to be cast late in the development of the film. del Toro’s role is computer generated, so he did not need to be present for filming.

del Toro is the latest big name to join the upcoming live-action Dora the Explorer film based on the beloved children’s cartoon which follows the titular character on different adventures. In addition to del Toro, Eva Longoria, and Michael Peña star in the film. Dora the Explorer also stars Isabela Moner (as Dora), Eugenio Derbez, Micke Moreno, Nicholas Coombe, Madeleine Madden, Adriana Barraza, and Temuera

The synopsis for the upcoming live-action Dora the Explorer film reads as follows:

[row]“Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents nothing could prepare Dora for the most dangerous adventure ever – High School. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego, and a ragtag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost Inca civilization.”[/row]

The film is directed by James Bobin and is already in production in Austrailia.

Dora is expected to explore her way to theaters on August 2, 2019.
