The Avengers: Infinity War finale saw many beloved Marvel characters turn to dust. The demise has left fans speculating how the characters could come back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the next film.
In the trailer for Avengers: Endgame, you may have spotted that Groot has already emerged from dust.
The film’s teaser seemingly depicts Tony Stark floating through space after his bout with Thanos. If you look very close at that specific shot, it appears as if Groot’s wooden face is behind him. In Avengers: Infinity War, Groot was one of Thanos snap victims and turned to dust.
If you’re convinced that he made it back alive with all his branches in tact, it may also be a result of pareidolia. Pareidolia is when the human brain tries to interpret something into a more recognizable shape or form. In the shot, Guardian galaxy isn’t on the ship but is a result of pareidolia or phenomenon in which the human brain attempts to interrupt stimuli of the brain into recognizable forms or shapes. So this could easily be a series of shapes and light that are forming to look like him, but aren’t actually him.
Take a look at the screenshots closer up. What do you think? Groot, or not Groot?
Groot won over the hearts of fans when he first appeared in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. He was full grown and spoke many wise words of advice, such as “I Am Groot.”
He brought fans to tears at the end of the story, when the ship blows up and he wraps his friends up in a ball to dull the firey blow when they hit the ground. That version of Groot, the wise, weathered pal of Rocket, does technically die, but his broken wooden fragments yield Baby Groot. Baby Groot quickly became a character fans would do anything to protect. It’s said that Baby Groot is not the same Groot we originally meet, but that’s okay because maybe we’ll see him again someday.
Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26, 2019.
