‘The Walking Dead’: Tom Payne on What Will Happen to Jesus’ Body

Walking Dead fans are still reeling over the shocking mid-season finale moment that left a fan-favorite character dead at the hands of some creepy walkers.

The Whisperers made their first appearance on the show as Jesus went head to head with a group of them. At the end of the fight, one of the walkers whips out a knife and stabs him. It’s a moment so unexpected, that it leaves Aaron (Ross Marquand) on his knees, crying.

The two were present at Walker Stalker New Jersey this weekend where they talked about the scene and the relationship between the two characters.

Payne was asked if we will see Jesus again whether in the films AMC announced, or even as a walker.

As far as the next episode goes, there’s a decision as far as what has to happen now. They have Jesus’ body, there’s all these walker whisperers around them. And then there’s the 6 year time jump with several mysteries like the X’s, and Jesus might have a hand in a lot of that. There’s a bit of time where we don’t know what happened.

The two shared where they would want to live in a zombie apocalypse:

For Ross, he’d head to Costco.

I would probably find the nearest Costco, get my whole family there, defend it, deal with it and live there for the rest of time.

Tom says he would live at Marks and Spencer.

Marquand was asked about the difficulty of balancing Red Skull in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his Walking Dead role.

It’s not difficult to balance, when people come to the table and see a Red Skull photo, they’re like “Oh, you’re Red Skull?”

Ross was also asked if he’s tired of Aaron having all the bad luck when it comes to love.

I don’t know if finding love is a really critical thing at this point. Maybe we just get through each day and eat our food, and plant crops. I don’t think he’s worried about finding love or other things so.

Tom talked a bit about how he feels that Jesus is gone, and reveals hat he misses most.

The cast and the crew. I see the cast a lot in different circumstances and I get to carry on through the conventions which is really nice.

He says he loves how he went out and is excited for fans to see how the rest of the season turns out,

I love how the Whisperers were introduced. I know it was sad and shock for people, but I love that. For me, that’s what the show should be. I love how it was a complete surprise. I think you’re gonna love the rest of the season because The Whisperers are something else.

Ross adds that it will be explained in the back half of the season why the groups are a little at odds. The question remains,

Do we become total isolationists, or do we take people in? Now Maggie and Tara have that in mind for The Hilltop. Maybe it’s just safer and easier if we’re alone now. Jesus and Aaron believe that all we’ve been doing is taking in people, and finding the best people-the best fighters.

He says that’s what’s gotten them this far, but some people thinks it’s best to remain as is. Payne says that Jesus still wanted to explore.

He was sat at The Hilltop like, “Oh no more tigers for you then.” Some people have shut themselves off to that so its frustrating.

The Walking Dead returns on February 10th, 2019.
