Kit Harington Says He Won’t Be Involved With the ‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel
Jon Snow knows nothing of the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series, and he wants to keep it that way. Kit Harington, who has played the role of Jon Snow on the hit HBO series since the very beginning recently told BBC in an interview that he has officially left Westeros and has no intentions of going back in any capacity.
During an interview with BBC, Harington spoke about leaving the series by saying:
[row]”It was emotional to leave the job definitely, but I wouldn’t say I was sad: if like me you go all the way back to the pilot of Game of Thrones that’s almost 10 years of your life – that’s really unusual in an actor’s career. It was a huge emotional upheaval leaving that family. But would I want to go back and do more? Not on your life.”[/row]
Who could blame him, really? After 10 years of devoting his life to the same role, Harington is ready to branch out, take on new challenges and discover new opportunities. Currently, he has his sights set on theatre. When BBC asked if he would consider returning to the world of Game of Thrones for a cameo or a scene in the prequel series currently in production, his answer was still a resounding no while stating that he’s enjoying stage work too much.
Fans can rest assured, there’s still plenty of Jon Snow heading their way when Game of Thrones returns for its 8th and final season.
As for the prequel, the pilot will be written by Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, Kingsman) along with Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin. Goldman will also serve as showrunner as well as executive producer along with Martin.
Goldman’s prequel is one of five potential spinoff series (or, as Martin calls them “successor series”) which were in development. Though the story told by the prequel series will exist in the same universe as Game of Thrones, Martin has recently revealed via his blog that none of the Thrones characters (or actors) will appear in the new show. According to Deadline, the prequel series is described as chronicling, “the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.”
We don’t know much about the timing of the prequel series, but we do know that the final season of Game of Thrones will begin airing in April 2019.
