Season 9B of ‘The Walking Dead’ Gets Release Date

Gene Page/AMC

*This post contains very minor spoilers from Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead*

This past Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead was by far the most chilling episode of the series in years. Not only did it feature the heartbreaking death of a beloved character, but it introduced the Whisperers – the most haunting villains to appear in the comic books. Unfortunately, it also served as the mid-season finale, which means that we have to wait until 2019 to see what happens next in that cemetery.

So, when will The Walking Dead return? Chris Hardwick revealed on Talking Dead that the mid-season premiere will air on Sunday, February 10 on AMC. Now that the Whisperers have been briefly introduced and revealed to be a lethal group that wears walker skin in order to blend in with herds, the remaining episodes will dive into all the havoc they’re going to wreak on the communities.

The Whisperers are led by a woman named Alpha, who believes that the apocalypse is just the next step in the evolution of society. She will be played by  Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them alum Samantha MortonCassady McClincy will be playing Alpha’s 16-year-old daughter, Lydia and Sons of Anarchy star Ryan Hurst will be playing Beta, second in command of the group. The first promo for the episodes featured a first look at Hurst’s character and he was terrifying, to say the least.

So, mark your calendars for February 10th and be sure to head back to fanfest.com during the hiatus for all the scoop on what to expect in the back half of season 9 of The Walking Dead!

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn't be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own "Pepperwood Chronicles'.
