‘The Walking Dead’: Angela Kang Says We Will Get Answers About The X’s Soon

Caution: This post may contain spoilers from episode 9×07 of The Walking Dead entitled, “Stradivarious”

Last week’s episode of The Walking Dead introduced the audience to another case of the ‘X’.

At one point in the episode, the camera pans over a scar in the shape of a large X on Daryl’s back. It’s the same X scar that we saw on Michonne in the previous episode. It’s turned into one of the several mysteries that showrunner Angela Kang has laid out for us and perhaps is related to events that took place over the 6 years that passed in the time jump.

Kang spoke to ComicBook.com recently, where she gave a tidbit to those who are curious.

“So the X marks, that’s one of the sort of mysteries that we have this season. It’s a story that we will tell in the second half of the season. Clearly something has happened during the time jump, and one of the things… We kind of just wanted to seed in is the idea that six years have passed, a lot of story has happened off-screen that we didn’t see.”

She emphasizes that we’ve missed a lot over the time that’s passed.

“In any one of these seasons there’s so much that happened, and a lot of times we’re only covering a couple of weeks of time, so imagine how much stuff they’ve been through in six years,” Kang said. “And so, one of the things we started talking about is like, ‘What are some big things that might’ve happened that have affected Alexandria particularly, who are some people that might’ve been involved in this story?’ And so we kind of came to a story pretty early on that is part of the backstory for these characters now that the audience will learn more about as the season goes on.”

Michael Cudlitz, who directed the episode also hinted at when we’d find out more, and mentioned Maggie being involved. We can guess that she has the same exact scar. If you’re guessing there was a fight between the three of them, Angela says don’t. “I will say that it does not directly have to do with that,”
The Walking Dead airs its mid-season finale on Sunday at 9 PM ET on AMC and will return for the second half of season 9 in the new year,
