‘Star Wars’: Pedro Pascal in Talks to Star in ‘The Mandalorian’ Series

Earlier this year, news broke that Jon Favreau would be creating a new live-action Star Wars series for the studios’ upcoming streaming service platform, now named Disney+. Just last month, Favreau and Lucasfilm confirmed the title of the new series would be The Mandalorian. Production began on the series in October without casting the lead in the series, however now, it appears that Game of Thrones and Narcos star Pedro Pascal will be filling that void.

The actor was one of many rumored as a potential lead for the series, however, Variety reports that Pascal has officially been offered the leading role for The Mandalorian and is currently in the midst of negotiations with the studio.

According to StarWars.comThe Mandalorian will be set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. The series will follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The series will be written and executive produced by Favreau, with Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) directing the first episode. Additional episodic directors include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).

In addition to Favreau, Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson will also executive produce with Karen Gilchrist serving as co-executive producer.

In addition to announcing the platform’s name, last week Disney+ also revealed its plans for a Rogue One prequel series starring Diego Luna, so it looks like there are lots of exciting Star Wars plans in development at Disney+.
