Greenfield played Leo, a sheriff’s department deputy and Veronica’s love interest, throughout the show’s three-season run. He also appeared in the 2014 film, which was crowdfunded by fans, where we learned his character was working in San Diego. In the movie, he was able to provide Veronica with some key information about her murder case.

He joins a returning cast including Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars),  Jason Dohring (Logan Echolls), Enrico Colantoni (Keith Mars), Percy Daggs III (Wallace Fennel), Francis Capra (Weevil), David Starzyk (Richard Casablancas), and Ryan Hansen (Dick Casablancas). iZombie’s Dawnn Lewis has been cast to play Neptune’s new chief of police.

According to TVLineOswalt will be playing “the affable hapless Penn Epner, the out and proud best pizza delivery guy in Neptune. But while pizza delivery is his job, his passion is true crime. He is a frequent poster on unsolved murder websites, and is determined to milk his 15 minutes for all they’re worth.”

Here is the official synopsis of the series, which will feature eight episodes written by creator Rob Thomas.

[row]“Spring breakers are getting murdered in Neptune, thereby decimating the seaside town’s lifeblood tourist industry. After Mars Investigations is hired by the parents of one of the victims to find their son’s killer, Veronica is drawn into a mystery that pits the enclave’s wealthy elites, who would rather put an end to the month-long bacchanalia, against a working class that relies on the cash influx that comes with being the West Coast’s answer to Daytona Beach.”[/row]

Greenfield is currently starring in the CBS sitcom The Neighborhood alongside Cedric the Entertainer. Earlier this year, Greenfield wrapped a starring role on Fox’s New Girl where he played the lovable Schmidt for seven seasons and 146 episodes.
