Reasons a ‘Goosebumps 3’ Should Inevitably Exist

Initially upon realizing that Goosebumps 2 would be mostly R. L. Stine free, I became concerned. I did not understand how they could pull of a Goosebumps film without including Jack Black portraying the beloved author. The truth is the characters within the film provide an amazing narrative that makes me regret ever doubting them in the first place. Plus the way Goosebumps 2 ended, I have five reasons why they should create a Goosebumps 3. Please note the following reasons will contain spoilers within Goosebumps 2.

5. R. L. Stine

Reasons a 'Goosebumps 3' Should Inevitably Exist

Slappy wrote his own ending! An that ending sucked R. L. Stine into the book. What does this even mean?! Do we have no author that can fix our world again if something goes astray? Not that he truly needed to intervene in the sequel. The characters could figure out how to write their own ending as well since one of their leads was looking to attend college under a creative writing program. The fact of the matter is we need a third film to right Slappy’s revenge. By combining the characters in the first film and the second to save the author it would lend to a fascinating story though I’m not sure how they would all come together as they took place in two separate cities.

4. More Books

Reasons a 'Goosebumps 3' Should Inevitably Exist

Not all the books are covered. The original movie covers a good portion of the books. While hints of the books are provided in both films, a blending of two or three of the past narratives could revitalize the franchise and keep it going. We see all these characters come to life and realize just how horrible our world would be with these characters in them. By them remaining on page the books lend themselves to a fun reading hour. Slappy trying to figure out ways to take you down is not an off screen scenario anyone would want to be in. Now I cannot help but think of how horrifying the combination of Chucky and Slappy would be.

3. Mr. Chu

Reasons a 'Goosebumps 3' Should Inevitably Exist

I need more Mr. Chu (Ken Jeong) in my life! I know they created this character to explain the Goosebumps world within the film, but they could utilize this character so much more. By having a fan of the books within the feature you not only can mention more books covering a boarder basis, but also create a character that can lend his knowledge to help the protagonist take down the antagonist. There’s a beautiful formula to it! He’s my favorite character addition to this franchise so far. Mr Chu also makes me see my future yard decorations for Halloween. Plus since he knows the franchise so well it lends itself to him helping destroy Slappy’s ending and getting Stine out of his book.

2. Horrorland

Reasons a 'Goosebumps 3' Should Inevitably Exist

For a while reports said the sequel would take place in Horrorland. I think the setting could lend itself to the series well. This could be something that has a Scooby Doo effect with a blending of a toned down Hell Fest. Plus the combination of Horrorland with Stine’s The Beast series to add an even more intriguing effect for fans eventually. The other benefit is that Stine scattered Slappy throughout Horrorland. By keeping him in the loop, he can continue to terrorize even more unsuspecting children who think he’s harmless. This also opens up the idea of utilizing a theme park as the backdrop of one of these films. This could also set the backdrop for why the characters from both films could unite as well.  A trip to a demented Wally World sounds like fun.

1. Slappy

Reasons a 'Goosebumps 3' Should Inevitably Exist

While originally Stine made it so that Slappy could not be killed, there needs to be a way to trap him within the book once more somehow.  Maybe there even needs to be a way to destroy this character once in for all.  I imagine he will become the Michael Myers or Jason Voorhees of the Goosebumps series.  Just when you think he’s gone he comes back to reign more terror. Besides, Slappy has always left fans clamoring for more.  In many ways he’s the child friendly version of the puppet from the film Dead Silence. Though really Mary Shaw is the one truly frighting in that film.  Regardless, Slappy is such an iconic Goosebumps character I’m not sure fully removing him is the best idea for the franchise.

Ultimately, Goosebumps has the potential to have an amazing horror franchise for children. A franchise that could lend itself as the gateway to future horror fans. My hopes is that these films continue develop in a manner that allows us to live in Stine’s world well into the future. Have you seen Goosebumps 2? What did you think about it?
